Every branch of your family, on one map
Build your family tree together. Add the people you know, link parents, partners and children, and watch it lay itself out, generation by generation, with photos, documents and the stories that go with them.
No card needed. The demo family is made up.

Made for the way families actually remember
Half-remembered dates, three spellings of a surname, a box of photos and a cousin who knows everything. Family Tree gives all of it a place. See every feature.
- Auto layout
Lays itself out
Add people and relationships; the tree arranges itself into generations. When a big family gets tangled, one click untangles it.
- Timeline
A timeline of your family
Line everyone up by year of birth, so you can see who overlapped with whom and how the generations stack.
- Search
Find anyone fast
Search by name, filter by place of birth, and switch on focus to fade everyone except one person and their closest relatives.
- Memories
Photos and documents
Keep several photos for each person in the order you choose, and attach documents such as certificates and letters to the people they belong to.
- Partial dates
Dates you are not sure of
Record just a year, or a month and year, when that is all the family remembers. Maiden names, places of birth and death, and a life story too.
- Roles
Share with the right people
Owners, editors and viewers. A viewer linked to their own place in the tree sees their branch, not everyone else’s. Viewers can ask the owner for edit access.
Start in an evening, keep adding for years
- Create a treeGive it a name and add yourself, your parents and your grandparents.
- Link the familyMark parents, partners and siblings. The layout takes care of where everyone goes.
- Bring in the memoriesPhotos, documents, places and a few lines about each life.
- Invite the familyShare with editors who can fill in their side, and viewers who just want to look.
A shared family tree only works if people trust it. Every change is recorded with who made it, viewers cannot edit, and an owner decides who gets edit access when someone asks for it.
Your tree is backed up every night. How your family’s information is kept.

Questions
Is it free?
You can create an account and start a tree today without paying or giving a card.
Are the people in the demo real?
No. The demo family is made up: names, dates, places and life stories are generated, and any resemblance to anyone living or dead is a coincidence.
Who can see my tree?
Only the people you share it with. You choose whether each person can edit or only view, and a viewer linked to their own place in the tree sees their own branch.
Can my family help build it?
Yes. Share the tree with an editor and they can add people, relationships, photos and documents. Every change is recorded in the tree’s history.
What if we only know roughly when someone was born?
Enter what you know: a year on its own, or a month and year. The tree and the timeline use whatever you give them.
Who built it?
Shawn Mervin, a software developer in British Columbia. It runs on AWS with the family graph in Neo4j, and costs almost nothing to run while nobody is using it.
